About Honner Law

Honner Law is a small litigation firm based in Toronto, with two lawyers who represent clients in Ontario and across Canada. Its practice covers civil litigation, family law, child protection consultations, and select criminal and constitutional matters, and the firm says it takes its own trials and appeals rather than referring them out. Honner Law was originally founded as a firm to sue the police, and police liability work, including claims for assault, wrongful arrest, negligent investigation, and breach of informer privilege, remains part of its practice today.

The firm's principal litigator, Alan Honner, holds law degrees from Osgoode Hall Law School and an earlier degree from the University of Waterloo, and has conducted jury and judge alone trials in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia. Honner has appeared before the Divisional Court, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Ontario Court of Appeal, and before entering private practice spent six years as a director at the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, later serving as litigation director at The Democracy Fund.

Senior associate Megen Zelinka, a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School with a political science degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and Ave Maria College, has consulted with hundreds of families under investigation by child protection authorities in every Canadian province and territory except Quebec, and is regularly contacted by institutional clients and private schools for advice in that area.
