About HC LLP

HC LLP is a small litigation and estate firm based in Toronto, with its office in the Yonge and Finch area of North York. Its civil litigation practice covers shareholder and partnership disputes, contract disagreements, fraud allegations, enforcement, and breach of fiduciary duty, along with mediations, trials, and appeals. The estate side of the practice centers on applications for a certificate of appointment of estate trustee, guidance for executors and trustees on their rights and obligations, and matters where an estate trustee is based outside Canada, including resealing and ancillary appointments. The firm is also active before the Tax Court of Canada, representing clients in disputes with the CRA.

Danny Chen serves as managing partner of HC LLP. Joanne Hwang, a founding partner, holds an Honours BA with High Distinction from Trinity College at the University of Toronto and a JD cum laude from the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law, and serves as an agent lawyer for the Office of the Children's Lawyer and as Section 3 Counsel appointed by the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee. Chen came to law after earlier work as an examiner for the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario, a question developer for a Health Canada exam program, a career in information technology (Chen designed the firm's own website), and running a tax focused accounting practice.
