Founding partner Arie Gaertner earned a J.D. from the University of Toronto in 1974 and was called to the Ontario bar in 1976, after serving as the Canadian senior litigation partner of an international, full service law firm before opening the practice that became Gaertner Baron. The rest of the firm's lawyers were called to the Ontario bar across a wide span of years, from 2000 up to 2024, and between them they handle wrongful dismissal and severance, shareholder and commercial lease disputes, human rights and landlord tenant matters, and estate litigation. The firm offers clients a choice of hourly, fixed fee, or deferred fee billing arrangements, and says many of its staff can serve clients in French, German, Spanish, Lithuanian, Yiddish, Urdu, or Hindi in addition to English.
