Frederick Hawa is a sole practitioner in Toronto whose practice is restricted to civil litigation. The office is at 20 Bay Street, Suite 1100, in the city's financial district. Frederick Hawa has run a private litigation practice since 1988, appearing before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and represents clients ranging from individuals to large companies. The practice covers business disputes, employment law, personal injury, debt collection, real estate litigation, construction law, and family and divorce matters other than custody.

Frederick Hawa holds a BSc from the University of Toronto's Victoria College (1977), an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University (1981), and an MBA from the University of Miami (1982). Before turning full time to litigation, the background included manufacturing and marketing contact lenses for various vision conditions, work on polymer based lens materials, and licensing CIBA Geigy technology for HEMA based contact lens production. That business experience was followed by founding EXtatin Inc., a startup working on a topical tattoo removal treatment.

One case from the litigation practice reached the Court of Appeal for Ontario. In Bank of Montreal v. Korico et al. (2000), Frederick Hawa acted for the Bank of Montreal on the immediate enforceability of a guarantee, and the Supreme Court of Canada denied leave to appeal.
