Fineberg Ramamoorthy LLP is a Toronto intellectual property firm founded in 2017 by Neil Fineberg and Kavita Ramamoorthy, who met as law students before Fineberg started an independent practice and invited Ramamoorthy to join. The practice began with two partners and one associate and has since grown into a team of eight lawyers, working out of an office on Bloor Street West.
The firm concentrates on contentious intellectual property work in the pharmaceutical sector. Its lawyers act in proceedings under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations, patent infringement and impeachment actions, and investigations and hearings before the Patented Medicines Price Review Board, along with judicial review applications targeting decisions of Health Canada or the PMPRB. The practice also takes on broader patent, trademark, and copyright litigation, plus patent and trademark landscape reviews and clearance opinions.
Both principals combine legal training with a science background. Fineberg holds a science degree in chemistry and human biology and is a registered patent and trademark agent, and Ramamoorthy holds a PhD in toxicology along with a science degree in pharmacology. Fineberg Ramamoorthy LLP is included in Chambers Canada's intellectual property rankings and was named to Canadian Lawyer's Top Intellectual Property Law Boutiques.
Wheelchair accessibleThe firm's office is in a 1961 office tower at 151 Bloor Street West, just east of Avenue Road in Toronto's Bloor-Yorkville area. It's a three minute walk from Museum subway station on Line 1, and it sits at the western edge of the Mink Mile, the stretch of Bloor Street between Avenue Road and Yonge Street known for its concentration of luxury retail.
The building is close to Queen's Park and Trinity College Field, part of the University of Toronto's downtown campus. One of the firm's associates, Rob Youngson, earned an undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto's Trinity College before going on to law school in Ottawa.
