Deacon, Spears, Fedson + Montizambert, known to clients as DSFM, is a Toronto law firm that has practised condominium law in Ontario for more than 45 years and serves as legal counsel to hundreds of condominium corporations across the province. The firm is based in midtown Toronto at 2300 Yonge Street, with a second office in Oakville. Condominium law is its main focus, but the ten lawyers at the firm also handle litigation and dispute resolution, business law, real estate transactions, and wills and estates.
The firm's name traces to its senior partners. John Deacon advised condominium corporations for more than 40 years before retiring at the end of 2018. Senior litigation partner Michael Spears has been a Law Society certified Specialist in Civil Litigation since 1994. Partner Blaine Fedson argued the Court of Appeal decision in Newport Beach, a case that clarified how condominium corporations in Ontario can pursue construction defect claims against Tarion and developers. The firm also takes on business, real estate, and estates matters for clients outside the condominium sector.
Wheelchair accessibleDSFM's Toronto office is in the Yonge Eglinton Centre at 2300 Yonge Street, right at Yonge and Eglinton. It's one of Toronto's business districts outside downtown, sitting on top of the Eglinton subway station, with the new Line 5 Eglinton LRT now running through the same intersection. It's also, fittingly for a condominium law firm, one of the most condo dense corners of the city, ringed by high rise condominium towers built up over the past few decades alongside older apartment blocks.
The firm's second office is in Oakville's Glen Abbey neighbourhood, near the golf course the area takes its name from. Glen Abbey Golf Course, a Jack Nicklaus design that opened in 1976, has hosted the Canadian Open more often than any other course in the country. DSFM's litigation lawyers also appear regularly outside the GTA, representing clients before courts in Brampton, Newmarket, Oshawa, Milton, and Barrie.
