About Cowan Law

Cowan Law is a small Toronto firm run by Jeffrey D. Cowan, practicing corporate and commercial law, real estate law, and wills and estates from three offices spread across the city, one downtown near Yorkville, one at Yonge and Lawrence, and one in Willowdale. Cowan is a Certified Specialist in Corporate/Commercial Law, a designation from the Law Society of Upper Canada, and the firm also offers notary and commissioner of oaths services.

Cowan holds two undergraduate degrees, one in economics from the University of Western Ontario and one in commerce from Concordia University, and a law degree from the University of British Columbia, where Cowan served as senior editor of the U.B.C. Law Review. Cowan later added an MBA from the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management and a Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School, specializing in business law.

The corporate and commercial work is aimed mostly at small and medium sized businesses, covering incorporations, business purchases and sales, and shareholder and partnership agreements, while the real estate practice handles both residential purchases, including condominiums, and larger commercial transactions. Cowan also wrote a weekly real estate column for Metro News, appearing on Thursdays, which the firm's site said was read by over one million people.
