About Common Ground Condo Law

Common Ground Condo Law is a small Toronto firm that focuses only on Ontario condominium law. It was launched in January 2020 by Chris Jaglowitz, who was called to the Ontario bar in 2001 and has practised condominium law and dispute resolution since 2003. Jaglowitz spent years working in condo law at another Toronto firm before starting Common Ground Condo Law, and wrote an Ontario condo law blog from 2008 to 2019. Jaglowitz also assisted the Ontario government's review of the Condominium Act between 2012 and 2014.

The firm works only with condominium corporations, managers and boards, not individual unit owners. Services include advice and strategy, dispute resolution, lien enforcement against owners who don't pay common expenses, and meeting chairing; Jaglowitz personally chairs annual general meetings and other owners' meetings across Ontario. Two colleagues round out the team. Gareth Stackhouse, called to the bar in 2012, has focused on condo law since 2015 after earlier work in Collingwood, a solo Toronto practice, a firm specializing in condo law, and a Bay Street firm. Valerie MacNeill, a Registered Condo Manager since 2016, has worked in condo management since 2011 and is now also pursuing paralegal studies.

The neighbourhood

Common Ground Condo Law's office is Suite 5700 at 100 King Street West, inside First Canadian Place at the corner of King and Bay in Toronto's financial district. Completed in 1975, First Canadian Place held the title of tallest building in Canada until 2025 and is now the third tallest; it's also home to several other law firms and to the Bank of Montreal's global operations. Because Common Ground Condo Law represents condominium corporations across Ontario rather than individual walk-in clients, the firm runs largely by phone and online. It advertises live phone reception from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and continued operating as a virtual practice through the pandemic, using the King Street West address as a base rather than a storefront.
