About Cobalt Lawyers

Cobalt Lawyers, also known as Cobalt AI, is a small Toronto firm that pairs corporate and commercial legal work with an AI assisted research and drafting platform called Clausehound. Founder Rajah Lehal built Clausehound as a legal document and knowledge engine, then made it the technology behind Cobalt's services. Before that, Lehal trained in the corporate law group at Stikeman Elliott LLP in Toronto and in the Technology, Media and Telecom group at Clyde & Co's Dubai office, and holds an MBA and a JD from the University of Western Ontario's Richard Ivey School of Business and Faculty of Law along with an undergraduate degree from the University of Waterloo.

The Toronto office sits inside the Legal Innovation Zone at 10 Dundas Street East, a legal technology incubator run by Toronto Metropolitan University, with a second office on Madison Avenue in New York. Alongside the corporate, M&A, and financing work that makes up most of its practice, Cobalt's small team of lawyers, developers, and research analysts also takes on family law consultations, simple wills and powers of attorney, and commercial dispute resolution, running each matter through the same combination of AI assisted research and lawyer review. The firm scopes and bills each matter by the hour or by project instead of charging a licence fee or retainer, with no cost upfront.
