About Civis Law LLP

Civis Law LLP is a small Toronto law firm run by Daniel A. Nelson, who advises clients on estate planning, estate administration, substitute decision-making, trusts, and corporate and business law. The firm operates out of a shared legal chambers building at 10 King Street East, Suite 600, in the city's financial district, an arrangement built around several small firms and solo lawyers sharing one office rather than each running a separate space.

Nelson holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Windsor Law School, along with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Canadian Studies and a Master of Arts from Trent University's Frost Centre for Canadian Studies and Indigenous Studies. Nelson was called to the Bar of Ontario and articled at a major Toronto firm before moving into independent practice. Outside law, Nelson has taught as a professor of law and business at George Brown College's School of Design, and has served as general counsel to the Association for Canadian Industrial Designers and as counsel to the Institute without Boundaries, ties that connect the practice to Toronto's design and business community.
