About Chi-Kun Shi

Chi-Kun Shi Law Office is a sole practice in downtown Toronto, run by Chi-Kun Shi as a barrister, solicitor, and mediator. Shi has practiced as a trial lawyer for more than 30 years, working in general litigation as well as commercial and intellectual property matters, and the practice focuses on resolving disputes through mediation as an alternative to costly courtroom litigation. The office traces back to 1993, when Shi launched an independent practice while still associated with the Toronto firm Lang Michener, where the focus from 1991 to 1994 was commercial and intellectual property litigation.

Before law, Shi trained as an engineer, earning a Bachelor of Applied Science and Engineering and a Master of Applied Science in Aerospace Studies from the University of Toronto, and working as an engineer at Spar Aerospace and as a nuclear safety engineer at Ontario Hydro. After an LLB from the University of Toronto in 1989 and a call to the bar in 1991, Shi studied mediation at Harvard Law School in 1996 and went on to serve 14 years as a roster mediator for Ontario's Mandatory Mediation Program in Toronto. From 2019 to 2023, Shi sat as a Bencher of the Law Society of Ontario and as an adjudicator on the Law Society Tribunal. The office serves clients in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Shanghainese.
