Cheryl Grossman Entertainment Law is a solo Toronto practice built by Cheryl Grossman, who represents production companies, distributors, and individual creators working in film, television, and digital media. Grossman began a media career 20 years ago, starting as a journalist at CJAD Radio in Montreal and covering Quebec's legislature as a political correspondent, then producing television news and documentaries for the CBC, the National Geographic Channel, and the History Channel. Grossman earned a law degree from the University of Ottawa in 2008 and was called to the Ontario bar in 2009.
Before opening the practice, Grossman worked in-house at the CBC, negotiating agreements for in-house and independently produced programs, distribution deals, special events, international co-production treaties, and production financing. That in-house work included legal matters for the Canadian Screen Awards, a national music awards broadcast, and a multi-city New Year's Eve special marking Canada's 150th anniversary. The practice now covers production financing, film and television production agreements, broadcasting and distribution law, errors and omissions insurance matters, and general counsel work for creative businesses, offered on-site or virtually. Grossman is fluent in French and reviews French-language contracts for clients working with partners in Quebec or France.

Flat feeThe office is in a 20 storey building at 77 Bloor Street West, at the corner of Bloor and Bay in Toronto's Bloor-Yorkville area, steps from subway and bus stops. It's a corporate office tower rather than a courthouse or entertainment-district address, which fits a practice built around contract negotiation rather than litigation and a general counsel service that's explicitly offered on-site or virtually. That makes it a straightforward, central spot for clients coming from production offices elsewhere in the city or from out of town.
