About Burokas Law

Burokas Law is a Toronto practice focused on professional regulation, the area of law that governs how regulated occupations are licensed, disciplined, and held accountable. It's run by Michael Burokas, who earned a JD from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law in 2014 and a BA (Honours) in Political Science from the University of Manitoba in 2010. Before entering private practice, Burokas worked in-house for a regulator, prosecuting industry-specific offences and appearing at the License Appeal Tribunal as counsel for the Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council. That regulator-side experience now informs a practice built around the other side of the table, defending professionals and businesses in registration, discipline, and licence matters.

The firm's client base spans more than twenty regulated sectors, from motor vehicle sales in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia to real estate, insurance, accounting, engineering, health professions, and cannabis retail. Burokas Law also acts for regulators themselves on administrative decisions and hearings. Earlier in the practice's history, Burokas worked under criminal defence lawyer Graham Zoppi at RGZ Law, handling matters ranging from assault and impaired driving to drug and weapon possession, and volunteered with the Innocence Project during law school. The firm still takes on criminal, commercial litigation, and employment matters connected to its regulatory clients.
