Brooke MacKenzie is a solo practice based in Toronto, working out of Courtyard Chambers on Adelaide Street East. Brooke MacKenzie was called to the Ontario bar in 2013 after articling and practising in the litigation group at McCarthy Tetrault LLP, and now advises and represents clients in professional regulation, legal ethics, and civil and administrative appeals. The practice covers complaints, investigations, and discipline hearings before the Law Society of Ontario and health profession colleges, along with advice on conflicts of interest, firm departures, client confidentiality, and other professional responsibility questions for lawyers and law firms.
Brooke MacKenzie holds a B.A. and J.D. from Queen's University and an LL.M. from the University of Toronto, and has been an adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall Law School since 2018, teaching a seminar on legal ethics. The appellate practice has included appearances before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Divisional Court, and Brooke MacKenzie serves as duty counsel for licensees at the Law Society Tribunal. It's a small, focused practice: recognition includes a Best Lawyers in Canada listing for administrative and public law, and, on a lighter note, a run as a Jeopardy! champion in February 2020.
Wheelchair accessible
By appointmentThe office is in Courtyard Chambers, a shared barristers' suite on Adelaide Street East in downtown Toronto, a short walk from King subway station and served by the 504 King streetcar. A Green P garage at Richmond and Sherbourne streets handles parking for clients who drive in. Since much of the caseload involves the Law Society Tribunal and appellate courts, and clients often travel in from outside the city for a hearing or a meeting, the downtown, transit-accessible location fits the kind of work the practice does.
