About Azam Murji

Azam Murji runs a sole criminal defence practice in Toronto, in business since 1997 with over 20 years of criminal defence experience acting as counsel at all levels of court in Ontario. Murji holds an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa and a B.A. in Computer Science from York University. The practice is devoted strictly to criminal law, covering charges from impaired driving and fraud through to sexual assault, weapons and firearms offences, robbery, arson, and murder, along with bail hearings, jury and judge-alone trials, summary conviction appeals, and extradition matters.

Murji is a former part-time Assistant Crown Attorney for the Ministry of Attorney General of Ontario, and also acts as a Standing Agent for the Public Prosecutions Service of Canada. Murji sits on the Roster of Mediators for Ontario's Mandatory Mediation Program, belongs to the Criminal Lawyers Association, and previously taught the criminal law section of the Bar Admission Course for the Law Society of Upper Canada. The practice also takes Extremely Serious Matters cases through the Legal Aid Ontario panel and regularly appears before the Ontario Review Board for clients found not criminally responsible.

Who handles what

The neighbourhood

The office is located at 611-255 Duncan Mill Road in Toronto. It's a location built for reach across the region rather than a single neighbourhood beat: the firm's own case list names hearings at the Ontario Court of Justice in North York, Scarborough, and Newmarket, reflecting a practice that works courthouses across the GTA rather than sticking to one local docket.
