History
The name Aluvion borrows from legal jargon for creating new land from the old. By early 2014 Aluvion was practising as a new kind of law firm that used technology to bring down costs and shorten turnaround, with set fees for a number of its corporate services, ranging from incorporating a company to buying or selling a business.
By January 20, 2014, the Financial Post had covered the firm's business launch in a piece by Mitch Kowalski. Later that year, on October 29, 2014, Aluvion announced a satellite office inside the Digital Media Zone at Ryerson University, set up to build the technology behind its Legal Solution Packages, including a $750 federal incorporation.

Aluvion works out of the Sun Life Centre, the stainless steel and glass complex at 150 King Street West. It went up in 1984 for Sun Life Financial's Toronto operations and served as the insurer's global headquarters until 2017. The complex sits at the corner of King Street West and University Avenue, with its taller East Tower in the Financial District and the shorter West Tower in the Entertainment District.
The complex links into Toronto's PATH network, and both towers connect underground to St. Andrew subway station. In 2010 the building earned LEED Gold certification from the Canada Green Building Council for its operations and maintenance.
