About Agostino Law

Agostino Law is a solo employment and labour law practice in Toronto, founded by Giuseppe (Joe) Agostino. Agostino was called to the Ontario bar in 2008, after earning an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2007 and a B.A. (Hons) from York University in 2004, and has practised exclusively in labour and employment law since being called to the bar.

Before founding the firm, Agostino worked in house, first as counsel for a major North American construction union representing its employee members, and then as counsel for the Toronto Transit Commission, described as one of the largest employers in Ontario and the third largest public transportation organization in North America. That combination of union side and large employer experience now informs a practice that represents both employers and employees across a range of industries.

Agostino Law handles termination and severance, wrongful and constructive dismissal, employment contracts, restrictive covenants, employment status questions, and human rights and workplace harassment matters, and appears before the Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, private arbitration boards, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal and the Ontario Labour Relations Board. The firm also advises employers on union organizing campaigns and collective agreement obligations, including in the construction industry.

The neighbourhood

The firm's office is on Erskine Avenue in Toronto's Yonge and Eglinton area, a business district a few blocks from the Yonge-Eglinton subway station on Line 1. The area grew out of the farming village of Eglinton, became the town of North Toronto in 1890, and was annexed to the city of Toronto in 1912. It's now home to a cluster of corporate offices, including Canadian Tire's headquarters, alongside mostly residential streets like Erskine itself. Agostino Law conducts client meetings by telephone or video conference and asks that documents be delivered electronically, rather than relying on walk-in visits to the office.
