About Murphy Family Law

Murphy Family Law is a Collingwood firm that practises exclusively in family law, covering separation and divorce, parenting, child and spousal support, property division, and domestic contracts such as cohabitation and marriage agreements. Founder Jason Murphy opened the firm in 2025 after more than two decades in the profession. Murphy graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, was called to the bar in 2003, and started out in litigation at McMillan LLP in Toronto before relocating to Collingwood in 2011 to practice at Christie/Cummings, where the focus shifted increasingly to family law.

The firm works across four ways to resolve a separation: litigation, mediation, collaborative family law, and arbitration, so a family isn't pushed toward court by default. Murphy trained as a mediator at Riverdale Mediation in Toronto and in 2024 was appointed a Dispute Resolution Officer of the Superior Court of Justice, a role that involves helping family law litigants settle cases without further court proceedings. Associate Aalia Ladak, called to the Ontario Bar in 2021, has practiced family law exclusively since 2018 and joined the firm after five years at a downtown Toronto family law practice, bringing litigation and alternative dispute resolution experience in parenting, support, and property matters. Along with the two lawyers, the firm has a law clerk, an articling student, and an office manager.
