About Jacques Côté

Jacques Côté is a sole practitioner who has practised law since being called to the Ontario Bar in February 1996. The office sits on Montreal Road, roughly midway between downtown Ottawa and Orléans, and offers services in both English and French. After years of broader civil litigation work, the practice now concentrates on two areas: residential real estate, covering the purchase and sale of homes, property transfers, and new mortgages, refinancing, and mortgage discharges, and wills and estates, including drafting wills, powers of attorney for property and for personal care, and assisting estate trustees through the administration process.

Côté earned a Bachelor of Law from the University of Ottawa's Francophone Common Law program in 1994, after two years studying political science and history at the same university, and articled at Lalonde, Chartrand, Colonnier, O'Connor before opening an independent practice in 1996. Côté has also taught law over the years, including civil procedure and insolvency law for the Law Society of Ontario's bar admission course from 2001 to 2008, paralegal courses at La Cité Collégiale from 2011 to 2014, and a wills and estates course there from 2017 to 2020. Côté currently teaches Testaments et successions at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law and supervises students there as a maître de stage.
