Christopher E. Clermont has run a private law practice in Ottawa since 1989. Licensed by the Law Society of Ontario and commissioned as a notary public, the practice concentrates on three areas: employment law, wills and estates, and civil litigation. Clients range from employers and employees working through a termination or severance dispute to estate trustees and beneficiaries sorting out an estate administration, plus individuals and businesses collecting a debt or resolving a contract dispute. The practice keeps two Ottawa office addresses, one on Prince of Wales Drive and one on Churchill Avenue North, so clients don't have to travel to just one part of the city for an appointment.

On the litigation side, Clermont has argued cases from Small Claims Court through the Superior Court of Justice and up to the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and has appeared before provincial boards and arbitration panels. Most civil disputes don't reach that point: about 65% settle at mediation and roughly 95% resolve before a full trial, by the firm's own account. Billing runs on an hourly or flat rate, tracked in six minute increments, with no charge for unproductive time.
