About Burk Law

Burk Law is an intellectual property firm based in Ottawa, Ontario. Ashley Burk, the firm's lawyer, holds a law degree from the University of Ottawa and an engineering degree in Engineering Physics from Carleton University. Ashley Burk practiced exclusively in intellectual property for about ten years at a small IP focused firm before founding Burk Law, and is called to the Ontario bar and licensed as a trademark agent. The firm advises clients in fashion, food, cannabis, insurance, high tech and biotech on trademark, copyright, patent and plant breeders' rights matters, and has appeared in trademark and copyright proceedings before the Federal Court, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Trademarks Opposition Board, as well as domain name disputes through WIPO and CIRA.

Patent work is handled together with Neil Teitelbaum of Teitelbaum & Bouevitch, who brings more than thirty years of international intellectual property experience and previously served as Vice President of Global Intellectual Property at JDS Uniphase. Neil Teitelbaum holds a degree in Electrical (Computer) Engineering from the University of Ottawa, and drafts and prosecutes patent applications in Canada while managing the filing and prosecution of applications in the United States, Europe and other jurisdictions. Burk Law's office is at 834 Colonel By Drive in Old Ottawa South, in a heritage house built in 1908 known locally as the Jarman House.
