About Kearns Legal

Kearns Legal is a solo law practice in Carleton Place, Ontario, led by barrister and solicitor Stephanie Kearns. The practice focuses on Indigenous law, representing self-governing Indigenous governments, First Nations, and Indigenous organizations, work Kearns has done for more than a decade. Services cover self-government implementation, including drafting and enforcing Indigenous laws, policy development, and negotiating implementation agreements; representation at regulatory hearings such as environmental review boards and utility proceedings; consultation and accommodation matters, where Indigenous governments engage with private companies, Crown corporations, and government bodies to defend their rights; and negotiations spanning Indigenous education, health, and environmental issues.

Kearns was called to the bar in 2010 and is licensed with both the Law Society of Ontario and the Law Society of the Northwest Territories. Before entering practice, Kearns clerked for the British Columbia Supreme Court, and has since appeared before superior and appellate courts in British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Kearns has been ranked among Lexpert's Best Aboriginal Law Lawyers in Canada.
