About Borys Law

Borys Law is a Kingston, Ontario firm that practices exclusively in parole and correctional law, one of the few law firms in the province devoted solely to this area. Simon Borys, a former police officer, founded the firm after earning a law degree from Queen's University and a bachelor's degree in philosophy, legal studies and criminology from St. Jerome's University and the University of Waterloo. The firm represents people held in jails and prisons across Ontario, and occasionally in federal institutions in other provinces, on parole hearings and appeals, involuntary transfers, grievances, judicial review, rebuttals and record suspensions.

The firm's work reaches beyond individual cases. Simon Borys was counsel for the appellants in Dorsey v. Canada (Attorney General), a habeas corpus case the Supreme Court of Canada decided in November 2025, ruling that a decision to deny a prisoner a lower security classification can be reviewed through habeas corpus. Borys also intervened at the Supreme Court on behalf of the Canadian Prison Law Association in R v Bissonnette, the case that struck down consecutive parole ineligibility periods for people convicted of multiple murders. Clients are typically in custody, so meetings at Borys Law don't happen in person; they're arranged by appointment and conducted by phone or Zoom.
