About Lean Law

Lean Law is a sole-practitioner family law firm in Carrying Place, Ontario, at the west end of Prince Edward County. Cheryl Lean opened the practice in 2004, after roughly a decade in general practice, and has focused since then on family law, child welfare, and wills and estates. It's a small, single-lawyer practice that has stayed in the same corner of the county since it opened. The firm handles divorce, child custody and support, spousal support, separation and parenting agreements, equalization of property, division of pensions, and Children's Aid Society matters, and has helped many military members resolve their property, pension, support, and parenting issues.

Lean holds a law degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax and an LLM from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, and was called to the Ontario bar in 1991. Before entering law, Lean worked as a photojournalist, art gallery director, and CBC broadcast journalist. Lean served as a Bencher of the Law Society of Ontario from 2019 to 2023, sitting on its Competence Task Force and Technology Task Force, and serves as an adjudicator on the Law Society Tribunal's Hearing Division. From 2007 to 2009, Lean was president of the Hastings County Law Association after serving on its board of directors.
