About Wise Health Law

Wise Health Law is a small firm in Oakville, Ontario that acts only for health professionals, health organizations, and national and provincial health professional associations. Valerie Wise founded the firm in 2013 and is certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Health Law. Before focusing exclusively on health law in 2005, Wise clerked at the Supreme Court of Canada for Chief Justice Antonio Lamer and built a litigation background that includes contested discipline hearings and medical malpractice cases at trial and on appeal.

The firm defends regulated professionals across a wide range of colleges, including nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, psychologists, dental hygienists, denturists, midwives, chiropractors, and dietitians, and appears before college discipline panels, hospital boards, coroner's inquests, the Consent and Capacity Board, and the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board. Lawyer Victoria Brennan practised as a nurse before articling at a Halifax firm focused on medical malpractice, and lawyer Alessandra Feldstein articled in the litigation department of Canada's largest mental health hospital. Wise Health Law also takes referrals from other lawyers and works with health organizations on hospital privileges and long term care matters.
