About M Barristers

M Barristers, which brands itself online as The Pink Lawyer, is a small criminal and family law practice based in Ohsweken, on Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. Alison R. Macdonald founded the firm in 2004, having been called to the Ontario bar that July. Macdonald holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from Simon Fraser University (1999), a Juris Doctorate from Queen's University (2003), and a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration, also from Simon Fraser (2006). The firm has practiced from Six Nations territory continuously since then, serving Six Nations and the surrounding communities.

The practice covers two areas: criminal defence, including impaired driving, assault, fraud, and more serious charges handled at all levels of court, and family law, including custody, child and spousal support, separation agreements, and marriage and cohabitation agreements. Macdonald is a panel member for Ontario's Office of the Children's Lawyer and takes on private family law clients when that office has declined involvement. M Barristers has accepted Legal Aid Ontario certificates since its founding, alongside its regular rates, and every prospective client completes a full intake, covering a conflicts check and next steps, before an appointment is booked.
