About Montour Law

Montour Law is a small firm in Ohsweken, Ontario, based on the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. Eliza Montour, who is Mohawk from Six Nations, earned a B.A. and an LL.B. from the University of Windsor and completed the Intensive Program in Aboriginal Lands, Resources and Governments at Osgoode Hall Law School, then was called to the Ontario Bar in July 2006. Montour founded the firm in March 2015, nearly a decade later, after earlier work in Aboriginal law and family law.

Before opening the firm, Montour worked with several First Nations organizations, including the Chiefs of Ontario and the Union of Ontario Indians, focusing on treaty research and specific claims. A stint in family law at Porter Law Office in Six Nations and a term as political advisor to the Six Nations Elected Council followed, before Montour Law opened its doors. The firm now handles family law matters such as divorce, custody, and child protection, criminal cases with a family law element, wills and estates including on-reserve property, and Aboriginal law issues affecting First Nations clients.
