About Roots

Roots Gadhia is senior counsel at Roots of Law and leads the firm's criminal defence team. Her caseload spans charges from murder to domestic assault, drug offences, sexual and aggravated assault, and firearms offences. She has appeared in courtrooms across the province, including the Ontario Court of Justice, as well as the Superior Court of Justice and, on appeal, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, in both jury trials and judge-alone trials. She studied English and Philosophy at the University of Western Ontario before graduating from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1995. She articled at the Toronto firm then called Pinkofsky Lockyer Kwinter and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1997. After two years as duty counsel across the Greater Toronto Area, she started her own practice in 1999. Gadhia served as the Criminal Lawyers Association's representative for the Metro West Courthouse between 2009 and 2015, and later sat on the Board of Directors of the Rexdale Women's Centre from 2016 to 2019.
