About Rina

Rina Jeyakumar is the founder and principal lawyer at Araya Law, originally from Vancouver, British Columbia. She completed her undergraduate degree in political science with honours at Simon Fraser University and her legal education at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law, where she received a fellowship at Vancouver's Downtown Community Court and an international human rights internship studying orphans' land rights in Kasane, Botswana. She was called to the British Columbia bar in 2011 and articled at Bolton & Muldoon, a boutique criminal defence firm. She has appeared before the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, and the Federal Court, and was later a senior associate at a small Burnaby firm and an associate at Watson Goepel LLP in Vancouver. She has also worked internationally, conducting constitutional litigation for the Legal Resources Centre in Johannesburg under the supervision of George Bizos, and co-founded an environmentally friendly transportation company, e-tuktuk, while in South Africa. She now teaches the Professional Legal Training Course for the Law Society of British Columbia at Thompson Rivers University.
