Criminal DefenceRichard Sylvain focuses his practice on criminal and penal law. He studied law at the Université de Montréal, graduating in 1979, and was called to the bar the following year. He began his career as a Crown prosecutor in the Longueuil district for five years before moving into criminal defence work. He later became a partner in a Laval firm that grew to 21 lawyers, mainly in criminal and penal law, which the Revue Juridique recognized at the time as the largest criminal-defence practice in Quebec. That partnership ended in 2014, leading to the incorporation of Les Avocats Sylvain & Paradis, which had been founded in August 2006. Since 2011, he has also taught criminal law as a lecturer at the Université de Montréal.
