About Peter

Peter Leask, KC (King's Counsel), joined Pier Law & Mediation as a Family Law Mediator in November 2025. He served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia for 12 years (2005-2017) and as a part-time Territorial Court Judge in the Yukon (1979-1983), and worked primarily as a criminal litigator from 1974 to 2005. Since 2017 he has focused on problem-solving, negotiation, mediation and arbitration, and appears before administrative tribunals rather than as courtroom counsel to maintain impartiality. He has a long record of public service in legal aid, including receiving the Law Society Award for Leadership in Legal Aid in 2019 and serving as counsel to the Barrett Commission inquiry into condominium construction quality. He is a Life Bencher and previously served as an Assistant Professor and later Honorary Lecturer at the UBC Faculty of Law. He graduated from Harvard Law School.
