About Patrick

Patrick Westaway is a corporate and tax lawyer with more than twenty-five years of experience helping businesses grow from start-up to sale, with particular depth in cross-border transactions. He started his career at Deloitte & Touche in Toronto in 1998, working in cross-border tax structuring, before moving into law and eventually joining Lang Michener LLP (now McMillan LLP), where he developed a corporate practice in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and commercial contracts. In 2009 he served as in-house counsel to Wind Mobile (now Freedom Mobile) during its start-up phase, and he has since advised clients across SaaS, biotech, medical services, telecommunications, renewable energy, and film financing. Westaway holds a B.A. (Honours) from the University of Western Ontario and a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, along with a certificate in entertainment law and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants' In-Depth Tax Course. He relocated his practice to Waterloo, Ontario in 2014 and has spoken and taught on cross-border tax and business topics at Osgoode Hall and various conferences.
