About Michelle
Michelle Johal was called to the Ontario bar in November 2002 after earning an honours BA from the University of Toronto and attending Queen's Law School, where she also volunteered at the Queen's Prison Law clinic advising prisoners at Kingston-area penitentiaries. She articled on Bay Street at Hicks Morley Hamilton Stewart Storrie LLP and then worked at the labour and employment firm Rubin Thomlinson LLP before moving into criminal law in 2005. She spent about seven years as an associate at a busy criminal law practice in Scarborough, handling more than a thousand cases and appearing at every level of court in Ontario, including the Court of Appeal, before starting her own practice in 2011. She now represents clients throughout the GTA on Criminal Code driving offences, domestic assault allegations, and other charges, with a particular interest in representing youth under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Michelle serves as Vice President of the Criminal Lawyers Association.
