Marvin L. Klassen grew up in North Battleford, Saskatchewan and earned a B.A. in Business and Religious Studies from Goshen College and the Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Indiana in 1996. He returned to Saskatchewan for law school at the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with an LL.B. in 2000, then spent a year studying French and working in Montreal before articling with a refugee law firm in Vancouver in 2001. He was called to the bar of British Columbia in January 2003 and opened his own practice focused on immigration and criminal law, and he remains a sole practitioner. He has appeared before all divisions of the Immigration and Refugee Board, the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the British Columbia Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court of Canada. He moved his practice to Port Coquitlam in 2014 and volunteers with his children's school Parent Advisory Committees, including chairing the District Parent Advisory Committee for School District 43.
