About Karen

Karen M. McArthur is a criminal defence lawyer who has practised since the early 1990s and was one of the few female criminal defence lawyers in the field at the time. She represents clients charged with serious criminal offences, including murder and attempted murder, drug importing and trafficking, assault, firearms offences, sexual assault, fraud and money laundering, break and enter, robbery, and internet offences, and also acts for victims in proceedings. Her practice extends to regulatory and discipline matters before bodies such as FSCO (financial services), the OSC (securities), and RECO (real estate), as well as proceedings involving health professionals, teachers and principals, and student suspensions and expulsions. Karen also represents players, coaches, and organizations in disciplinary hearings, suspensions, and appeals across sports leagues including the GTHL, OMHA, Alliance, and OHF. She has served on the board of Nellie's Shelter for battered women and is a frequent media commentator and speaker on criminal law and socio-political issues.
