John McGarrity is the founder and principal lawyer at John McGarrity Professional Corporation in Peterborough, where he has practised for more than 30 years. McGarrity earned his undergraduate degree at Trent University, where he made the Dean's Honour List and held a Trent University Scholarship. He went on to a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa, graduating magna cum laude and winning the Stikeman Elliott Prize, the Hugh Doyle Memorial Fund award, and the Carswell Book Prize for top standing in administrative, family, and torts law, plus a University of Ottawa Merit Scholarship. He later completed a Master of Laws at Osgoode Hall Law School. McGarrity has published in the Family Law Quarterly on child support for disabled adults and is involved with several community organizations in the Peterborough area.
