About James

James (Jamie) Merrigan practices corporate commercial law and civil litigation, including personal injury, and has appeared before all levels of court in Newfoundland and Labrador and before the Supreme Court of Canada. He has served as an adjudicator for numerous administrative tribunals and completed the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada Income Tax Practice Course in 2015. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Math from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1993 and an LL.B. from the University of Victoria in 1996, was called to the British Columbia bar in 1997, and was admitted to practice in Newfoundland and Labrador in 2000. Merrigan served as Canada Pension Plan Review Commissioner from 2008 to 2011 and as Chief Adjudicator of the Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Commission from 2008 to 2014, was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2014, and was appointed Master of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2015. He also served as a Bencher of the Law Society and as a National Section Chair for the Canadian Bar Association.
