About J. David Linton

David Linton, a partner at Duncan, Linton LLP in Waterloo, practises where commercial deals and commercial disputes meet. Much of David's career has been divided between a wide variety of business transactions and appearances in Canadian courts, at every level, to settle commercial disputes.

David's ties to the firm go back to 1976, the year David finished law school at the University of Western Ontario and arrived as an articling student. Partnership came in 1982, and from 1984 to 1992 David ran the firm as its managing partner. Along the way David was mentored by Walter McGibbon.

Teaching has been part of the picture too. Between 1978 and 1989 David taught a second-year law course at both Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College, and took part in seminars for business groups and financial institutions. Over those same years David was a Reviewer for the Law Society of Ontario, a program meant to assist and educate counsel ahead of disciplinary proceedings.

Business experience comes from the other side of the table as well. David has served on the boards of directors of several Canadian corporations, including a term as Vice Chairman of an internationally known public company.
