About Hu
Hu Eliot Young has practised law for more than 35 years, primarily in family and general civil litigation. He attended law school at the University of Alberta, worked as a summer student with Special Prosecutions, and articled first under the late Fraser Goddard at Parlee Irving and then under Keith Ritter (later of the Alberta Court of Appeal) and George Akers. Hu began his own legal practice with law school friends in 1994 and, in 2004, started a solo practice from a heritage building in Old Strathcona, now practising in association with three other lawyers who share the space. He has extensive trial experience, including appellate work and matters before administrative tribunals, and has been a member of the Civil Trial Lawyers' Association and the Canadian Bar Association for more than 25 years, writing for the Barrister publication and materials for the CBA family law section. Hu has served as national president of Easter Seals, sat on various provincial and municipal boards, judged the Jessup International Moot Court competition, and coached basketball, including provincial championship teams. He is an avid hiker and cyclist who has raised funds for a mental health foundation through long-distance cycling trips.
