Forsythe practices as a lawyer and mediator in Calgary, with a focus on administrative law, animal law, family law, human rights and workplace investigations. She was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1987 and to the British Columbia Bar in 1993, and has practiced litigation and mediation continuously since 1987 in Alberta, BC and Texas. As of 2021 she had mediated over 500 files involving human rights complaints, family, personal injury, commercial, child protection and estate litigation matters. She regularly appears before administrative tribunals on behalf of professionals and licence holders facing disciplinary proceedings, and also advises animal breeders and buyers on contract matters. She served as the first Ombudsperson in North America assisting law firms and their employees with workplace discrimination complaints, and previously taught Legal Ethics as Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta and Mediation Law at the University of British Columbia. She holds an undergraduate degree in Law (1986) and a further undergraduate degree in Adult Education with Distinction (1981) from the University of Alberta, a Master of Laws from Duke University (1991), and a Doctor of Juridical Science from Duke Law School (2002). She received the Alberta Pro Bono volunteer of the year award for sole practitioners in 2019.
