About Etienne
Etienne Esquega leads Esquega Law Office from Fort William First Nation, practising Indigenous law, corporate and commercial law, and civil litigation. He is a member of Biinjitiwaabik Zaaging Anishinaabek (Rocky Bay First Nation) and grew up in Thunder Bay before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Windsor and an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2005 and has appeared before administrative tribunals, the courts of Ontario, and the Federal Court of Canada, largely representing First Nations and Indigenous clients in litigation, land claims, and governance matters. He served as an elected Bencher and Northwest Regional Representative of the Law Society of Ontario from 2019 to 2023 and continues to sit on the Ontario Civil Rules Committee as an appointee of the Chief Justice of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. He is also a director of the Canadian Bar Association and a member of the Indigenous Bar Association and the Thunder Bay Law Association.
