About David
David Martin has practised criminal law for 35 years and served as Editor in Chief of the Charter of Rights Newsletter, Canada Law Book's national "Charter trend" publication, from 1990 to 2002. He has been lead counsel in numerous constitutional challenges to Canadian federal statutes under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, including cases addressing Crown privilege under the Canada Evidence Act, the vagueness of gaming provisions in the Criminal Code, the general anti-avoidance rule in the Income Tax Act, and evidentiary standards in extradition proceedings under the Extradition Act. His work includes the Supreme Court of Canada decisions United States v. Ferras and United Mexican States v. Ortega, both decided in 2006. He and his associates concentrate their practice in white collar criminal defence, domestic constitutional litigation, and international criminal defence, often representing individuals, corporations and boards facing multi-jurisdictional tax, securities, foreign corrupt practices, money laundering, competition law, or fraud investigations.
