About Cheryl

Cheryl J. Tobias, K.C. is counsel at Cliffe Tobias, Barristers & Solicitors and practises through a law corporation. Her work centres on Aboriginal law and criminal prosecutions, including as lead counsel for the Crown in a nine-accused drug conspiracy trial and in R. v. Kapp, a case concerning Aboriginal fishing rights that reached the BC Court of Appeal. She was also lead counsel for Canada in Lax Kw'alaams Indian Band v. Canada before the Supreme Court of Canada, a case that helped define how Aboriginal rights claims must be structured in civil proceedings.
