Bernard Vézina practises as an avocat and mediator, offering both legal representation and dispute-resolution services. As a mediator, he helps separating couples and other parties in family and civil matters negotiate fair settlements, and he can represent a party in court to have a mediated agreement homologated. As an avocat, he consults with and represents clients before the courts, acting for either the demanding or defending party in contentious and non-contentious matters. He notes that a lawyer who has acted as mediator in a file cannot then act as counsel for one of the parties, since the two roles are incompatible.
