About Barbara

Barbara Doherty has a broad corporate and commercial practice. Her work touches on foreign direct investment, securities law, corporate finance, corporate governance issues, and deals involving mergers, acquisitions, and private equity investments. She works with both Canadian and international clients on cross-border transactions, and has advised issuers, controlling shareholders, independent committees, and government agencies on acquisitions, divestitures, and reorganizations involving securities and competition considerations. She has helped businesses from dozens of countries establish and expand operations in Canada, across industries ranging from biotech to energy to real estate development. Barbara also plays a role in dispute resolution, supporting litigation and providing expert opinions to the court on commercial matters. She earned her J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1980 and a B.Ed. from McGill University in 1970, and was called to the Ontario bar in 1982.
