About Avtar
Avtar Bhangal has practiced criminal defence exclusively since joining the Law Society of Upper Canada in February 1994. His trial work covers impaired driving, domestic assault, theft and fraud, and sexual assault cases, and he has defended serious charges including Impaired Driving Causing Death and Attempted Murder. Over the years he has handled thousands of criminal matters and been quoted in outlets such as the Toronto Star, Toronto Sun, City TV, OMNI News and Time Magazine. He helped found the South Asian Professional Networking Association and remains active mentoring newer lawyers and speaking to students. He studied business and commerce at the University of Toronto before completing his LL.B. at Osgoode Hall Law School in 1992, earning several academic scholarships along the way. He is fluent in Punjabi, which he says helps him prepare clients more thoroughly for trial.
