Abdulkadir Abkey was called to the Quebec Bar in 2006. His practice focuses mainly on mergers and acquisitions, mining law, environmental law, and commercial litigation. Before founding Abkey Avocat Inc., he practised in the business law departments of two major international law firms and served for nearly six years as legal and policy advisor to Quebec's Minister of Justice, Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, and the Deputy Premier and Minister of Education. During that time he acted as a specialist on the Plan Nord file, taking part in negotiations concerning proposed mining and environmental protection legislation and land purchases for conservation. He negotiated with environmental groups and advised on protected areas, project approvals, intergovernmental relations, and Indigenous affairs, and was the ministerial office's designated liaison for matters involving the Bureau d'audiences publiques sur l'environnement (BAPE).
