About Carvello Law

Carvello Law Corporation is a small planning, development, and environmental law firm based in Victoria, British Columbia. Lui Carvello, a lawyer and Registered Professional Planner, established the firm in 2010 after working with developers, at McCarthy Tetrault, in municipal and regional government, and for six and a half years at another municipal law firm serving local governments across the province. Carvello has since practiced law for over 26 years, including 23 years as a Registered Professional Planner. The client list started with six local governments, and the firm's site says sixty more joined them over the following fifteen years, along with the Province, First Nations, Improvement Districts, conservation organizations, and a housing non-profit society.

The firm advises on bylaw and covenant enforcement, development applications, bylaw drafting, and public process for local governments across British Columbia. Since 2011, Dana Goodfellow has handled litigation and prosecution work with Carvello Law through Goodfellow's own firm, Phoenix Law Corporation, after five years at Watson Goepel Maledy and Borden Ladner Gervais LLP and a role as senior counsel with the British Columbia Securities Commission. Carvello announced a sabbatical in May 2025 that took a year to arrange before beginning in earnest, with a return to service planned for 2027. Goodfellow continues serving clients directly or through Carvello Law in the meantime.
