About Sunwood Law

Sunwood Law is a small firm based in Thornhill, Ontario, practicing family law, criminal defence, and immigration law across Toronto and the GTA. Founder Nicholas (Xiaoliang) Sun is a Barrister and Solicitor with a J.D. from the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom and two undergraduate degrees, in Business & Society and in Law & Society, from the University of York. Before starting the firm, Nicholas Sun worked at a mid-sized firm practicing criminal and family law, after an earlier career as an entrepreneur in China. The firm takes on family, criminal, and immigration files together, which it says helps with complex cases that touch more than one of these areas.

Sophie Cai, a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, is the firm's managing partner and holds a Graduate Certificate in Migration Studies from the University of British Columbia, working on Express Entry, LMIA, family sponsorship, and caregiver program files. Julia (Ye) Zhang serves as senior law clerk and Chinese law counsel, a registered practicing lawyer in China with more than two decades of practice there in business, civil, and family related litigation, who later worked as a law clerk in Ontario and Manitoba. Sunwood Law offers service in Mandarin and English and serves the wider GTA, including North York, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Scarborough, and Mississauga.
