Cowan & Carter is the trade name of Northstone Law Professional Corporation, a litigation firm with offices in Concord, in the city of Vaughan, and in Barrie, Ontario. The firm's own materials trace its roots to 1903. Its current owner and managing partner is Nick Tenev. The same corporation also runs a separate litigation practice under the name Cowan Litigation from an office on King Street West in downtown Toronto.

Tenev's career began at a Bay Street law firm before an in-house role with the Royal Bank of Canada's legal department in Toronto. Before practicing law, Tenev worked as an engineer in Canada's nuclear industry. The firm's litigation practice covers business and commercial disputes such as shareholder and partnership conflicts and breach of contract, along with real estate litigation over boundaries, title, and construction, plus tax matters ranging from CRA audits and objections to voluntary disclosure and Tax Court proceedings. It describes itself as serving clients across the Greater Toronto Area, Barrie, and Ottawa.
